Link of the day: Project YaNeGovorila Yes against forced marriages
ONLINE "LINK OF THE DAY" We recommend materials from other publications on topics that deserve attention.
Five years ago, punishment for ala kachuu appeared in the criminal code of Kyrgyzstan. Since then, only 895 calls have been registered. Of these, only 161 were criminal cases. And only 28 reached the court. In January 2019, the new Criminal Code will come into force, according to which a criminal can receive up to 7.5 years in prison for ala kachuu. But the matter is not in the strictness of the law, but in its execution. The law did not prevent Marsh Bodoshev from abducting and killing Burulai Turdaly Kyzy at the police station

The Kyrgyz edition of Kloop launched the project # ЯНеГовилалаА - under this tag collected stories of women who were abducted for marriage without their consent. According to activists, every 17th woman in the country survived the ritual abduction - ala kachuu. The stolen bride is brought into the house and forcibly gets the white curtain - kosho: it is believed that if a girl did this, she agrees to get married. If the abducted person resists, they can rape her - so that she, “disgraced”, will be ashamed to leave the house of the potential spouse. Every third man in the country considers custom the norm.
Today, throughout Bishkek, they have hung the cat with real stories of abducted girls. You can also listen to them on the site # ЯНеГовилалаДа. In the same place, the authors of the project propose taking measures: according to activists, if there are more women in law enforcement agencies (now 94% of the police are men), statements about abductions will be made more often, and the law against ala kachuu will start working.
