Geometric dresses and transparent bags Ksenia Gerts

IN THE WEEKLY RUBRIC "NEW MARK" Wonderzine presents young designers and tells where and how you can buy their things. Our heroine this week is Ksenia Hertz, who creates simple dresses, sweatshirts and skirts of geometric cut.

Notable designers outside of Moscow and St. Petersburg can be counted on the fingers. Wonderzine has already talked about a jeweler from Yekaterinburg, George Rushev. Now we have learned about another promising local designer - Xenia Hertz, who was born and raised in Chelyabinsk. Recently, she showed a collection in Magnitogorsk. She creates sweatshirts, skirts and dresses with graphic details and raw edges. The girl offers to complement them with transparent accessories: plastic bags and backpacks. This line helped her to get an internship with the popular Hi-di-hi brand Sylvia Krens in the Netherlands.

Hertz did not know where to study after school, and her mother offered her to get a seamstress education. After college, Hertz entered the Chelyabinsk Humanitarian Institute at the department of fashion design, where she created the first collection. Making clothes on the periphery is not easy, so Ksenia began working in a local studio. She traveled a lot, moved from one city to another and was engaged in individual tailoring. The customer pool accumulated and disappeared with the next change of the city, so Hertz decided to start a small production of clothing of his design.

My prospects for becoming a painter frightened my mother, and she said that if I learn to sew, I can always earn a piece of bread. Previously, my attitude to design was radically different. At first I worked with trends and tried to please the buyer. Now everything has changed: I want to create clothes for intelligent girls, it should be comfortable, simple and of high quality. I like to experiment with textures and forms, but very often I have to adapt my ideas to real life and to the real consumer. I prefer to do everything on my own: from the sketch and design to the layout and sample, because it may take more time for other people to control, and finding good designers and seamstresses is difficult. Much time is spent searching for fabrics. I brought most of the fabric for the last collection from Bangkok, but due to problems with the excess baggage, I had to tear out the fabric with tears in my eyes - this was the biggest shock in the last 10 years. Therefore, I sewed a new collection in a small run - three to five copies per item. I want to develop, now a great team is going around me, we are making a collection and a website, and where it happens doesn’t matter, but another thing is that Chelyabinsk has fewer opportunities, and most likely I will move to one of the capitals.
