Slip-ons in spring-summer collections

IN A CONSTANT WONDERZINE HEAD talks about trends from the podium that can be adapted for your wardrobe for the next six months. In this issue, we understand what are slipons that appeared after the mass market and street brands in the collections of designers from Givenchy to Maison Martin Margiela.

How it all began

Slip-on sneakers are lightweight sneakers with a rubber band and thick soles. What distinguishes them from the shoe: they are minimalist (no shoelaces), sporty and very comfortable (put on and went). Slip-ons today are new sneakers: they are just as versatile, but they look much more interesting than the nicked Nike Air Max. If we turn to history: first there were sneakers, then slipons appeared. Slip-on shoes from skateboard culture. In English, slip-ons are called slip-ons or vans shoes. The last name is not accidental. In the late 70s, Paul Van Doren, founder of the Vans streetwear brand, invented slip-ons as lightweight athletic shoes for skaters and surfers from the Pacific coast. Obviously, for the variety of style of the guys with the boards and so that the laces do not interfere. The popularity and special love of the new shoes came in the 90s after the release of the film "Careless Times in Ridgemont High" with young Sean Penn as a long-haired surfer who went all in black and white slips in the film. True, then such a checker was picked up by sad emo and now it is better to beware of such slipons.

How To Wear Slip-on Sneakers

Bloggers and stylists put on slip-ons last fall during fashion weeks. At the same time, Kenzo’s entrepreneurial team showed a collaboration collection with Vans. Through the season - this spring - all the stamps were released by the slipons: Céline, Prada, Lanvin, Saint Laurent, Mother of Pearl, Givenchy, Maison Martin Margiela. This is not surprising: slip-ons are a commercial thing and it’s strange that Russian designers didn’t make their own version of this shoe. Slip-ons are so versatile that you can wear them with any clothes: with a jacket and cropped trousers, with a tennis skirt and a cropped top, with a laconic midi-length dress, with a shirt-dress. The exception is, perhaps, bulky boyfriend jeans, leather pants in flared and flared pants (the latter specification applies to sailors).

BEWARE!

Avoid slipons with primitive prints: animalistic ("tiger", "zebra"), graphic ("rhombus", "square"). The exception is, perhaps, tropical prints (such refer to surfer culture), digital prints (like those of Christopher Kane) and prints, as if drawn by the artist. Although traditionally slip-on sneakers are made of canvas, this is a dense linen fabric that lets in air and keeps its shape, today brands make them from a variety of textured materials: shiny skin, neoprene mesh, perforated, reptile skin. These can be woven or varnished slipons. In our opinion, it is best to focus on monoton canvas: black with a white sole or pastel colors (pale pink, light blue) are ideal options. Last question: with or without socks? According to the normcore, of course, with socks (an important clarification - monophonic). Will be the norm.
