Birdie co-owner Ksenia Tumanova in her living room
RUBRIC "ROOM" dedicated to the place in which a person spends most of his time. It can be absolutely any space: a huge kitchen in which the hero works and rests, an art gallery that has become the second home of its owner, or just a living room in a one-room apartment, which is at the same time an office, a bedroom and a secret place. The space in which a person is able to concentrate on himself and his affairs and not feel himself a participant in the eternal race of a big city. In our new issue - co-owner of Birdie hairdresser Ksenia Tumanova and her lounge.
For the last seven years, I have been living in the Mayakovskaya - Belarusian area, and for me this is the perfect place: you can walk to any point, the White Square is close to a set of cafes and restaurants to suit any mood, while it is moderately sleeping - with those same grandmothers on the benches in the courtyards who know everything about everyone.
My husband and I moved to this apartment a couple of years ago. During the overhaul, they demolished the wall between the tiny kitchen and the large walk-through room - this is how we got a comfortable dining room and a comfortable living area with a sofa. When guests come to us, on the couch you can relax from eating and sitting with your back straight, without parting with the drink and the rest of the company.
About space and furniture
At first, on the site of the sofa was a pair of vintage armchairs with a very low seating position, and this part of the room was popular with our dog, Lobzik. A year later, the sofa of the Hong Kong brand Stellar Works appeared, and the living room immediately became my office, reading room and cinema, depending on the time of day. Despite the fact that such furniture is usually associated with doing nothing, the hard cushions of this sofa do not differ much in how they feel from an office chair. Ascetic design allows not to be distracted during the working day. And from here there is a great view of a large three-leaved window and in summer time the sun comes to this part of the room.
Like, probably, many people of our age, my husband and I got used to buying things in online stores, having considered them in the 10 x 10 cm picture. Most often we are lucky and in reality the object looks exactly like on the screen, and sometimes even better . Our last home purchase was a chandelier, which we saw on instagrame @ lamps_of_50_60_70s - after two days it was hanging in our bedroom.
We could not figure out how it is more convenient for us to listen to music, so we have two audio systems: a pair of Grundig space speakers for vinyl and a wireless Bang & Olufsen for favorite music mixes.
About posters and pictures
I am a classic teenager of the 90s, for me posters have always been a home decoration. Therefore, I shamelessly begged the promo-poster for the Andre Saraiva exhibition in the Tsvetnoy department store, which our friend Katya Yarmahova was engaged in organizing. In my defense, I will say that we carried him home on a windy night in January without gloves, and all the incorrectness of our behavior was compensated for by physical suffering. Despite the recognizability of this Saraiva series of works, I regularly hear the question: "This is when it was and why was I not there?" - so let it hang on.
Portrait of Jigsaw for the newspaper "Big City" was to symbolize one of the types of leisure with a dog - a game of frisbee. We were called to take pictures for external data, but in the end two hours four adults ran around the studio and tried to force the one-year-old dog to sit still for a minute. For publication, the flying saucer was simply drawn in Photoshop.
A picture with a road sign of the hotel Chateau Marmont, the one where the main character of the film “Somewhere” was missed - our friend Gena Rublev. Gena called us to visit the soup with vodka, and we left home with this picture with a dedication on the back. We have the best friends.
About little things and plants
The most foolish idea, in my experience, is to try to bring something for home from trips. We do not know how to think minimalist, so everything that we like will hardly fit into a suitcase. Some small things to remember about the journey, such as vinyl records, we regularly forget in the cafe, or someone always takes them away. By and large, in our time in Russia, you can buy almost everything and practically for the same money that would be spent on the purchase, delivery and customs clearance.
People often ask me how I take care of house plants. In fact, we live with them on the principle "only the strongest will survive." After the death of three Ikeev palm trees, I now buy everything from an ordinary flower shop not far from home. Most easily go through my frequent business trips, holidays, and time trouble at work, when I don’t even have time to drink tea, let alone water. A big problem in Moscow is still beautiful flower pots. However, according to the brass pots that have appeared in the past collection of H & M Home, you can confidently predict a couple of hundred rubles: in a couple of years, we will all be at home in foreign designer blogs.
I love books for being inside, so I usually read them through Bookmate. Another thing - photo albums and books with illustrations that are inseparable from the physical shell. The most beloved in our collection is Herluf Bidstrup's comics, which I looked at holes during the summer holidays with my grandparents for ten years.
