New rave: Neon colors in new collections

IN A CONSTANT WONDERZINE HEADtalks about trends from the podium that can be adapted for your wardrobe for the next six months. In this issue we understand why a lot of things of acid and neon shades appear on the catwalks and in stores.

How it all began

One of the first to start experimenting with bright colors was outrageous Elsa Schiaparelli. At the beginning of the 20th century, she made bright pink and magenta outfits for women - despite the fact (or rather, in spite of this) that 90% of women were shy to stand out, preferring gray suits. The designer thought they were doing it in vain. We owe the appearance of neon things to Andy Warhol (who mixed lemon paint, fuchsia, electric, and bright orange), as well as to Ken Kesey's generation, who was fond of LSD.

However, the neon in question today is a return to the spirit of the late 80s and the first half of the 90s. Neon bloomed in the expanses of Britain in the wake of the first Manchester raves. Ecstasy, strobe lights, clothes glowing in the rays of ultraviolet - the ravers knew how to have fun and how to dress for the occasion. In their arsenal were simple T-shirts with psychedelic prints, waist bags, tie-dy effects, bandannas, fluorescent body colors and the slogan “Drop acid, not bombs” on the jackets, things from the net, and development of acid design posters and flyers. Like the smiley that was first applied to the club flyer in 1998, many design elements of that era moved to clothing. Even an adherent of gold and bright prints Gianni Versace exploits bright shades of “eyebrows” up to 1997, and today things with acidic neon prints flash in the Versus Versace collections and in collaborations of the brand with M.I.A.

How to wear neon now

Neon shades from time to time reanimate - during the whole five-year plan from 2007 to 2011 they flashed in the spring-summer collections of different brands. Remember the boom for fuchsia, men's collections of Raf Simons, Jonathan Saunders, Jil Sander sample spring-summer - 2007 and 2008, Prada spring-summer - 2011 and, of course, Christopher Caine, who turned to "eyebrows" in the spring-summer seasons 2007 and 2011. You can also recall the collection of Speedy bags for Louis Vuitton, which advertised Agnes Dane in 2009 - then Marc Jacobs used the drawings of New York designer Stephen Sprouse.

But today we see neon in the autumn collections. Designers are not afraid to position blasted colors for the evening and offer them classic things: evening dresses, coats, clutches, men's shoes. However, if you are not ready to go to the end, you can get rid of some neon sneakers (as Karl Lagerfeld did in the Chanel collection) or accessories.

Some designers build their entire autumn collections on neon and psychedelia, such as Dries Van Notein. Proenza Schouler returns to the podium electrician and fiery orange. Raf Simons, who truly loves neon, shows classic dresses and coats of psychedelic colors. In the strict monochrome collection of Jil Sander there is a place for lemon yellow men's shoes. Overall young favorite Jacquemus shows an oversized electric-colored coat, as well as bright orange. Marni include bright fuchsia items in the collection. Alexander Wang mix items of monochrome leather and suede with bright lemon and pink things and accessories, and also show bright neon textured knit sweaters. In the autumn season, Marc by Marc Jacobs does include in the collection raver prints from the 90s, as if redrawn from flyers from techno-dens.

Neon and rave inspired things will stay with us in 2015. So, a fan of pop and rave culture Jeremy Scott pulls the rave cover on the Moschino fashion house, smearing smiles with things from the 2015 cruise collection. And Christopher Kane shows neon lace, which refers to his early collections.

Watch out!

Of course, things of such expressive shades need to be worn carefully and be wary of neon total bows. However, such a maximalist version would look cool at a party: we would suggest combining a neon laconic A-line mini-dress and neon sneakers. But in general, we advise you to control yourself and set off the outfit with one neon thing (for example, shoes or a coat). Any object of acid color will approach monophonic and laconic things - white, black, gray or cream.
