Vases, shoes and perfect summer dresses: Spanish brand Paloma Wool
IN RUBRIC "NEW MARK" we present young designers and tell them where and why they should buy their things. Our release this week is dedicated to the Paloma Wool brand. Its founder, Spaniard Paloma Lanna, creates comfortable and simple things for life, which she presents in the most bizarre way, weaving them into video installations at the intersection of performance and modern dance.
More recently, Spain could not boast advanced clothing design - and today it is a storehouse of talents of various stripes. Among them, Elena Rial is a young brand from a tiny town, whose latest collection is inspired by the Amish culture, Palomo is the brainchild of Spanish-like Simon Jacqumus, who makes the agent clothes and dresses men in feathers and rhinestones, or Manebí, the shoe brand that produces the perfect espadrilles for the city, which could be seen on Pitti Uomo. In this list there is a place for one more, also an extremely interesting brand, Paloma Wool.
In an important, albeit small, online store Need Supply Co. The brand description sounds like a "multidisciplinary creative project." Indeed, a relatively young brand from Barcelona is famous for collaborations with artists from different fields. At the same time, the creator Paloma Lanna is proud that her brainchild is tightly connected with the place: almost all things are made in her hometown of designer from natural materials - flax, wool and suede.
The history of the creation of Paloma Wool is impassable: the girl’s parents founded a brand named after herself, Nice Things Paloma S., a quarter of a century ago, thanks to which they traveled all over the world from Japan to Portugal. Parents encouraged Paloma's creative quests and advised her to focus on her own business. "I could not begin for a long time, until I clearly understood that I wanted to combine my interest in art and photography with fashion," she says. So, if you look at the instagram brand, you can see the stunning installations in the desert, and perky dancing against the background of newsreels.
Paloma Wool continues the course for a new comfort. These are clothes for women made by women: light, pleasant to the body, not holding down movements, far from the severity of the uniform. In the lineup there is not only denim, costumes of muted tones and skirts of breathtaking beauty, but also a number of items and accessories that support the general concept: from painted vases to books. This is fashion combined with art, albeit in microformat, and here there is a place for performance, ceramics, and modern dance - and exploring this world is incredibly interesting.
I think Paloma Wool is an art project. Its possibilities are endless: we made collaborations with artists from different countries in order to create unique works of ceramic art; limited edition silk carts with drawings of people whom we admire; bathed in waterfalls to capture the moment for print; drew a female body and took pictures of our friends to show how people around us influence us.
