It is not easy to talk about mental disorders: despite the fact that many people around the world are facing them, this topic is still stigmatized and surrounded by many prejudices. That's why the blog of illustrator Ruby Elliot is especially important - she speaks about her experience and psychological problems seriously and openly, but with humor. Ruby was diagnosed with bipolar and eating disorders, which caused her to go to the hospital several times.
The artist began to draw illustrations about her life and psychological state about four years ago - it became a way for her to calm down during panic attacks and dissociative episodes and to express what she could not say with words. “When I felt a strong desire to hurt myself, the drawings were one of the few non-destructive ways to throw out emotions,” she says.
Ruby started with a tumblog with minimalist illustrations and comics and gradually became more famous - in November she released a book. In the fall, Elliot said she plans to make a short pause in the work, but she will still upload work on instagram.
