Legalize: Why everyone began to make cosmetics with hemp
Together with walking across some countries and states of the United States the decriminalization and legalization of marijuana has increased the popularity of research on a wide variety of hemp properties: the psychotropic properties of certain species of this plant are far from the only thing that makes it interesting (in English, by the way, there is a distinction based on the type of use, actually cannabis, cannabis, and hemp "," hemp "). In the last year, the beauty industry has become favorably disposed towards the plant - we tell how cannabis has become fashionable and what it can do with the skin, according to existing data.
How it started
Hemp oil has long been known as a good anti-inflammatory, soothing and emollient component: many are probably familiar with the legendary cream The Body Shop, able to bring in a decent condition even very dry skin. However, hemp extracts were not too popular until the last year: its use is still hampered by legal restrictions. Popularization of medical marijuana has changed the situation, which, of course, is expected - however, the scale of interest of manufacturers and consumers of cosmetics to this component is surprising. At the same time, there are studies that cannabis has a great cosmetic future - it’s still unconditional to believe this, but it’s worth taking an ingredient.
It is mainly about cannabidiol - one of the types of cannabinoids that prevail in cannabis contained in medical marijuana. It is he who gets into creams and balms. Although CBD does not have a psychotropic effect, it is credited with other special properties: a study published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation claims that this component helps regulate sebum production and, accordingly, reduce acne. The article by the British Grazia also presents research data from dermatologists at the University of Colorado, which confirmed the anti-inflammatory efficacy of CBD for patients with psoriasis, eczema and allergic dermatitis.
Why is this happening
Most likely, such an optimism of the beauty community in relation to hemp extracts is not associated with the proven usefulness of the component, but with the popularization of marijuana in principle. In addition, herbal ingredients that have become fashionable due to the trend for "natural" and eco-friendly cosmetics, alas, do not often work wonders. This concerns the high allergenicity of most of them - the most diverse "organic matter" often categorically does not suit sensitive skin, skin with acne, and other features that require careful care. Hemp extracts, as well as many other substances, also have individual allergies. Despite the optimistic results of the above studies, there is no evidence of the effectiveness of monotherapy with only this component. So to speak about the "treatment" of acne or psoriasis with hemp extracts seems unreasonable.
Who produces it
Small brands are already appearing in the US, all products of which contain cannabidiol - for example, CBD For Life and CBD Daily. Hemp extract is contained in Kate Somerville moisturizing cream, which has received good reviews (it is possible that due to other impact ingredients). There is even a lotion that relieves muscle pain, the Lord Jones brand, as well as many more entertaining products with hemp content - for example, the new Milk Makeup mascara. It is possible that in the near future we should expect the first "serious" cans of non-crafting production.
