Short tops in spring-summer collections

In this issue we understand how shortened tops - an attribute of teenage fashion from the 90s - gradually infiltrated into the collection of almost all brands in the world: from Topshop to Vika Gazinskaya and Balenciaga.

How it all began

With crop tops, the situation is about the same as with mini skirts - the sexual revolution has enabled young and not very American women to expose a tight press somewhere in sunny California or at the Woodstock festival. Prior to this, various short sweatshirts and flirty bustiers outside the beach were worn only by little girls and frivolous beauties on pin-up cards. However, in the 70s-80s, the shortened top in the city looked even more defiant than fashionable — the touchingly vulgar heroine Jodie Foster from Taxi Driver and faceless girls from erotic posters emerge in memory.

But fashion with greed and pleasure takes on any aesthetics (for which we love it) - in the nineties short “T-shirts” became objects of desire for all fashionistas, including Russian. The tone here was set by girl bands like Spice Girls and TLC. The first - in the grotesque shoes on the platform and bold tops with inscriptions, which from the height of today look so bad that it is already good. The second - in wide trousers and comfortable sports t-shirts. Even then, a universal way was found to do without vulgarity - a short and deliberately flirtatious thing almost always combined with something sporty or careless (it was very useful to have a grunge style).

How to wear now

Cropped tops in the spring collections weight and, of course, there is plenty to choose from. Like last summer, pin-up busts, gang strips and simple knit tops, exposing the belly are relevant. New and fresh is that many images are distinguished by some pleasant severity - a flared midi skirt or well-tailored trousers in combination with a volume crop top without a neckline, like those of Trager Delaney, Vika Gazinskaya, Giles or Jacquemus, do not look frivolous and resemble not only for the heat in the city, but also for a dinner party.

Architectural tops of a complex cut, like those of Balenciaga and Gareth Pugh, are best left for a spectacular evening out, but the daytime image will be balanced by relaxed details: wear a silk top in a lingerie style with a sports backpack, and touching short flowered T-shirts with flowered bermuda shorts. The combination of a high-waisted pencil skirt, classic pumps and a tiny bustier of cheerful colors (as in Wren or Adam Selman) remains a win-win - but if you are not a singer Rihanna, then you are unlikely to be comfortable in that city. Here a jacket in men's style or even a simple white shirt casually draped over shoulders will come to the rescue. By the way, our favorite minimalism has also not been canceled by anyone: let the cropped top look like a cropped men's white T-shirt (such as Vionnet, Isa Arfen, ICB) and combined with strict trousers - in this form you can definitely go not only to the office and being considered the most fashionable.

BEWARE!

The basic rule seems to be intuitive to everyone, but it is still worth talking again. The shortened top is suitable for owners of a taut press - if you are not sure of the ideality of your abdomen, then, most likely, in the crop top you will be uncomfortable in the first place. Pants or skirts with a high waist can partly save the situation. By the way, jeans with low waist combined with a shortened top is not the most successful idea in any case, even if you really want to demonstrate the abdominal obliques.
