Stylist Anna Trevelyan about models from the street and the spirit of the times

Stylist - the key person in the fashion photographyand not just a person who picks up dresses and puts them on models. The creative director of American Vogue, Grace Coddington, proved this to the whole world in the September issue. And continues to prove one of the main young stylists - Anna Trevelyan, in a sense, Katie Grand future. The girl, who is called the future of the fashion industry by Business of Fashion and styling Ashish, shoots for Dazed & Confused and V magazines and is the fashion director of one of London’s most progressive stores, Machine-A, which also sells Raf Simons and Tigran Avetisyan. Wonderzine editor Lisa Kologreeva talked to her about why styling is not the most glamorous thing, and how to combine several professions.

I meet a young stylist Anna Trevelyan at a special event of the TONI & GUY Hair Meet Wardrobe brand, where she tells how to combine the hairstyles of the season with clothes. It is nine o'clock in the morning, and Anna is already taking a selfie with the second speaker of the event, journalist Susie Bubble. It seems that the two main hopes of the British fashion industry are not very friendly, but work is work. Anna looks like an average anime fan and Lady Gaga: she has pink hair, very bright makeup and long extended nails, she wears a voluminous silver raincoat with silver shoes with high heels. A few years ago, the girl was discovered by none other than Nicola Formichetti, one of the most influential people in the modern fashion industry: he was the stylist of Lady Gaga, and now he is reviving the Diesel brand. Formichetti found Trevelyan on MySpace and suggested that she withdraw for the Uniqlo campaign. Anna managed to extend the acquaintance - she was in a team with Nicola for about two years. Now the girl works quite independently, and so successfully, that she gets a place in the list of 500 top fashion workers in the online edition of Business of Fashion Imran Amed and similar compliments from The Independent.

Only 10 minutes are allotted for the interview, so I start with the main thing - her nails with the characters of "Adventure Time". As I expect, Pendleton Ward’s animated series turns out to be her favorite - Anna can watch him for hours, especially when she is sad, and also loves anime. Sadly, however, this time there was no time - she had just styled two shows, Ashish Gupta and Nazir Mazhar. It seems that she advises the first one: his latest collection is so fresh (which are jackets made of many layers of fabric, jeans with “Vogue” lettering pearls and things with branded sequins of the brand with the same pearls), it remains only to be surprised by the designer’s instincts. Styling is made without a hitch without a hitch - models have fluff waves of different colors, they are in sneakers with LEDs from the Ashish and Topshop collections.

Anna Trevelyan and Nazir Mazhar have real friendly relations. That, however, is not uncommon for young designers and stylists, who often form peculiar duos and help each other succeed. "I have known Nazira for a long time, we first met when he was preparing the first show, which Nikolai had styled. He inspires me, he has his own vision, it is truly unique," says Anna. Majar and Trevelyan adore street style, hip-hop and the 1990s (and are their adepts in fashion), so only real girls demonstrate their clothes: European and mulatto, tall and short, thin and full. So Anna describes them: "These are our friends, they are very sexy and only they will show how to wear these clothes correctly." We agree: the way the clothes look on the customer and on Carly Kloss are completely different things. Anna, Nazira and we will also be supported by Rick Owens, who is releasing ordinary people to the podium for the second season in a row.

“Styling doesn’t bore me, I love to generate ideas and have the opportunity to work with people who inspire me, from photographers to artists. This work stimulates me every day. True, I don’t like to collect and deliver things, steam, but this is a necessary routine. “This is not the most glamorous work in the world, as many people think, which is what all these taxes cost for mail”, says Anna Trevelyan. Styling is not her only job. “I also help with the purchases of the Machine-A store, it turned out that people want to buy young designers, so things are going very well, I also sometimes do design, I have a brand in Japan,” Anna continues.

Multidisciplinarity is a frequent sign of workers in the modern fashion industry. Now there are people who combine photography and direction, the work of a model and, say, a journalist. How does Trevelyan imagine his future - it’s impossible to do three jobs all your life? "I would like to become an art director. This is exactly what interests me. I think the main thing for fashion is to come up with interesting concepts."
