Experiment: Is society ready for men's makeup?

In a joint project, we decided to check how society treats men's makeup - we put on bass guitar player On-The-Go and Intourist Dima Midborn with new ink from The Curler from YSL Beauty and offered him to spend the whole day in a new way and play the concert . Dima and his girlfriend Marina shared their impressions and reactions of others to change their image.

At 20 I was fascinated by musical groups whose members made their own make-up. The moviemakers completely reproduced the images of the characters in the films - I did almost the same thing, copied guitarist Richie Edwards from Manic Street Preachers.

Ten years ago, a guy with painted eyes was perceived differently than he is now. But even then I didn’t have any troubles because of the makeup. Painted guys and now rarely meet on the street, but every time I see a young man with makeup, I think: "Wow, class. It's bold."

I did not specifically say about the experiment to the guys from the group. I thought at least they would laugh, but they were not even surprised. Only Zhenya, the soloist and founder of Intourist, said that I looked like a goth. The world turned out to be fully prepared for a guy with made-up eyes: no one gave me a puzzled look anywhere — not at the grocery store, not at the taxi, much less at a concert.

Much depends on how you serve yourself. You can feel like a rock hero, and you can fool around and just get high - I do. I like to treat everything with humor and not to take myself and others seriously.

I am for any means of self-expression - even if Dima would be beautiful every day. My youth came to the heyday of goth culture - all the guys on my course went with painted eyes, so for me this is completely normal.

I am glad that Dima took part in this experiment: he had not painted his eyes so brightly before, and it was interesting to see him that way. But for me, he just appeared in another image of the possible, no more.

Makeup is just a way to express yourself. Did Dima become less courageous in my eyes? Not at all. It seems to me that painted eyes, on the contrary, can even emphasize masculinity.
