Narrow glasses: An elegant trend from the 90s - not just for spies
We tell about trends from podium, which can be adapted for your wardrobe for the next six months. In nostalgia for the 90th - namely, oversized things, openwork tights and tracksuits - lacked a little detail. She became the narrow futuristic glasses that will replace the boring "aviators" and massive models. Interestingly, this accessory is often chosen by heroes of action films, thrillers and action games. We tell what to wear with it today.
How it all began
People began to protect their eyes from the sun in ancient times. The prototype of the glasses was invented by the North American Inuits: they wore a walrus-bone construction, in which a thin slit was cut out - so the blinding glare did not get into the eyes. In Europe and Asia, they invented truly luxurious models: for example, the Roman emperor Nero observed gladiatorial fights in glasses with lenses made of polished emeralds, while Chinese judges of the 12th century hid impartial faces behind quartz "glasses."
It can be seen, however, it was not too good through gems - perhaps, therefore, they forgot about glasses for hundreds of years. Only in the XVIII century, English optician James Eysko began experimenting with different types of glass. He believed that blue and green lenses filtering bright light, can correct visual impairment, as well as increase the contrast. And although Eysko didn’t try to make sunglasses, his doctors took note of his research. So, in the XIX century, patients with syphilis were offered a special design of dark lenses and a metal nozzle - it helped the eyes that suffered due to illness and hid damage to the nose, which in the worst cases rotted. Such a device, by the way, appeared in the series "Nikerkoker Hospital".
In the XX century, this accessory finally got accustomed to the usual wardrobe. At first, it was worn by actresses to hide reddened eyes: the lighting lamps on the set were too bright, and the flashes of the cameras literally blinded. And although with the advent of high-tech equipment, glasses were no longer required, the artists continued to wear them in order to remain incognito.
It is clear that after celebrities fell in love with glasses, everyone else wanted to follow their example. For many celebrities, they became a branded accessory: Marilyn Monroe had “cat eyes”, Jackie Kennedy had massive models, John Lennon had round glasses in thin wire, and James Dean had a tortoise frame. Ray-Ban brand Wayfarer was worn by actors Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson, singer Madonna and Michael Jackson. When in 1936, the founder of the Polaroid corporation, Edwin Land, presented the first polarized glasses - that is, capable of reflecting any glare - the designers had only to begin experiments.
What did it lead to
Needless to say that glasses have never gone out of fashion, and the stars have become the main trendsetters in this area. For example, new models could often be seen on Paris Hilton: lenses of acid colors, huge plastic frames, unusual shapes, and excessive decor went through it. Trends invariably infiltrated into the films - in the first half of the 2000s, fresh images were often exploited: take at least Blonde in Law, Chick or Cinderella Story.
Although the designers are nominally inspired by the 90s, then this accessory was worn mostly by men. An illustration of this movie again - there they certainly relied on villains, spies and superheroes. So, in dark glasses Tom Cruise cuts in the film "Mission Impossible", Samuel L. Jackson wears almost "naked" model in "Shaft", and the Cyclops from X-Men sports a bright glass. And only Trinity from The Matrix can be called a rare exception; True, her black glasses and leather things are more likely to belong to the team.
As a result, today, brands are again experimenting with narrow glasses. In the autumn-winter collection of Balenciaga, they organically fit into the images with bags, trunks, blouses with polka dots and fishnet tights. MSGM showed acid, almost cyberpank bow, an important detail of which was thin bright glasses. Prada did not go into the past, offering to wear futuristic glasses with microshorts, stilettos and printed coats.
While the big designers are just mastering the trend, fashion publications already call this accessory a landmark. Thin glasses have long been chosen by Rihanna, who combines them with lush or asymmetrical dresses. The singer Solange appeared in the thinnest red frames for the cover of the magazine Surface. Model Gigi and Bella Hadid, as well as the Kardashian sisters, were seen wearing similar glasses. And although Georgian designer George Keburiya specializes in clothing, it was his bright glasses that were shot.
What to wear
Futuristic glasses will naturally be combined with everything that resembles the style of the 90s. If these are sports things, then surely huge hoodies, sweatpants and massive sneakers. If you want to wear something in the spirit of a disco or a rave of that time, then tops and blouses from Lurex, leather skirts, massive jackets and leopard fur coats will do. In any of the images you can enter very trendy boots, sheepskin coats and oversized jackets.
You can go the other way. For example, Keburia offers to combine glasses with minimalist things: plain turtlenecks and asymmetric trousers. A simple knitted dress and shoes with a flat sole is also a great option: thin glasses instead of the usual square will certainly refresh the image.
