How to survive the summer in the office and not get angry - in every sense

alexander savina

Summer in Russia does not mean good weather by default - but we do not stop hoping for it. The only drawback is the need to continue to spend eight to nine hours a day in the office, looking at the blue sky and the sun outside the window - and so on until the weekend or the long-awaited vacation comes. We have collected some tips that will make summer in the office more enjoyable.

Review nutrition

In hot weather, many people face a similar problem: after breakfast, they do not feel like eating all day, but by evening, when the heat subsides, the feeling of hunger wakes up and we eat much more than usual - and heavy food does not at all contribute to good sound sleep. The way out is to revise the menu: to choose lighter dishes for example, salads or cream soups from vegetables, to pay more attention to seasonal fruits, berries and vegetables - the summer months only contribute to this. You can start a tradition in the office and buy fruit one by one - everyone will be satisfied.

We should also think about drinks - although there is no confirmation that you have to drink two liters of water a day, in the summer we understandably want to drink more. In order not to forget about it, you can, for example, keep a glass or a bottle of water on your desk. You can find a refreshing summer drink that is right for you - from kvass to apple shorle. Contrary to popular belief, coffee does not contribute to dehydration (although caffeine and diauretic), so you can safely not give up the morning cup - hot or cold.

Work a day on the street

It is unlikely that this advice would be suitable for bank employees who take clients for a few hours a day - but everyone else may be useful. If the working conditions and company policy allow, suggest the head and colleagues a day to work outside - in the park, where there is Wi-Fi and stands for charging gadgets, or on the summer terrace of a pleasant cafe. The main thing - not too distracted by passers-by and pleasant weather. If this option is too brave for you, you can confine yourself to a meeting on the street - an hour or two outside the office will definitely not interfere with the working rhythm.

Tame conditioner

Those who have air conditioning in the office know that this is not always a good idea. All of us at least once participated in disputes about how many degrees you need to put on the device: those who sit directly below him feel quite differently than those who are at the end of the room. And although experts do not believe that a sharp drop in temperature — outdoor heat and office coolness — harms our health by itself, an air conditioner can, for example, increase allergy attacks (something that is dangerous not to change the filter in time, you know that way). If the office has a central air conditioning system that you cannot influence, and the temperature is too low for you, bring a jacket (or even a sweater) from home and leave it in the office for those days when it is especially cold.

Take a closer look at the portable fans.

The first and main problem of all those who spend the summer months in the office is temperature. A good air conditioner, and even less the opportunity to adjust it so that it is comfortable, is not for everyone - if you are less lucky, it makes sense to take care of yourself on your own. If the idea of a fan and other more traditional ways to cool does not inspire, take a closer look at the fans: you can throw off the department for several large ones, and you can buy yourself a personal one - for example, you can find them on ASOS or from Xiaomi. You should not wait for serious results from the second (besides, it is worth checking whether it will not be too noisy from them) - but in a strong heat all means are good.

Get out of the office more often

Anyone who has ever experienced summer in the city knows that the best way to do this is to get outside as often as possible. In the office, this is felt especially acutely: there is little that upsets as the need to sit at the computer screen when there is not a single cloud outside the window. There is a way out - try to get out into the street at least for a few minutes more often: for example, eat lunch on a bench in the courtyard instead of office kitchen, take a walk over coffee or ice cream, or simply use ten minutes of each lunch break for a short walk. This is a good way to reboot and distract from work tasks for a short time, in order to take up the task with new forces.

Find out if you can change the schedule

Many companies arrange short working days on Fridays, but all of us sometimes want more: arrange a morning run until it is too hot, or take a walk in the evening while the weather permits. If your company doesn’t have a very strict attitude when employees come and go, you can ask the manager to move your schedule one hour back in the summer months (if you want to avoid the heat, work while the office is cool and comfortable, or leave it early , to walk under the evening summer sun) or forward (if you want to enjoy the summer morning). The main thing is that in this mode, productivity does not suffer.

Get to work on a scooter or bike

If, because of work, you do not have much time for summer walks, as you would like, then there is still a way out. You can, for example, go to work by bike or scooter - it will be faster and more fun, moreover, physical activity is always useful. If you go too far from home to the office, you can limit yourself to a bicycle ride from the subway (look at city bike rental) or buy a folding scooter - you can take it with you by public transport and then ride it instead of walking.

Think over clothes

In companies with a strict summer dress code, it can be especially difficult: if you cannot appear in the office without tights even in hot weather, the only thing left is to choose lighter fabrics and the minimum allowable length of sleeves or skirts. There are techniques that will suit everyone: choose natural fabrics (synthetic things can be elementary hot), loose fit and comfortable shoes: there is nothing worse than spending eight hours in the office wearing shoes that have rubbed your legs.

Put fresh flowers on the table

In addition to fruits and berries, another joy of the summer season is the abundance of flowers, which begins in May with many beloved peonies. Once a week, you can put fresh flowers on your desktop to remind yourself that summer does not pass by - this is an inexpensive and easy way to cheer up. The main thing is to make sure that the colleagues next to you do not mind and they do not have allergies - otherwise your joy will be someone’s nightmare.

Plan your vacation

If nothing at all helps to feel better, remember that summer is also the holiday season. Just plan the following: there is little that warms up like the thought that you will soon find yourself on the beach, spend a couple of weeks at your beloved cottage, or walk around the summer city with ice cream.
