Julia Vydolob about girls in men's clothing
Julia Vydolob - Editor-in-Chief of fott.ru, a journalist and just a girl with exceptional taste, who previously led the “Things” column in the Afisha magazine and worked as a senior fashion editor at Look At Me. After the last spring-summer men's shows, Julia talks about men's clothing in the lives of girls.
I love men's clothes. I work in a men's clothing store, and most of my active wardrobe had been male long before. I have several pairs of sneakers from male lines (they almost always look more interesting than female ones), my favorite jeans are men's Levi's 501. I wear men's T-shirts and shirts, I get upset that I don’t always have men's pants on me, and recently bought myself a present for a day birthday on the site oki-ni. I somehow find it easier to deal with men's clothing (as well as with men): in both cases I am bribed by the lack of ambiguity, healthy conservatism, practicality and noble simplicity.
Of course, I'm not the only one. The girls did not begin yesterday to master men's clothing. Yes, and other types of male activities, too: the struggle to conquer male territories lasts more than a dozen years. But it seems to me that lately it has acquired a peculiar shade. This is not a struggle at all - no one bothers the girl to wear men's pants and boxing. It is rather a desire to enjoy male privileges. We bear the same (and sometimes large) loads, the same moral and financial responsibility for ourselves and our families as men, maintain the same pace of life. Add to the pressure of the fashion industry, which is becoming faster, more redundant and more aggressive. The result - not just the notorious minimalism.
Why don't we also wear comfortable sneakers, weightless sneakers, voluminous things that do not hinder movement?
We do not just wear simple things, inspired by men's, military clothing. We are increasingly wearing directly masculine clothes. Because - and why are we worse? Why don't we also wear comfortable sneakers, weightless sneakers, voluminous things that do not hinder movement? In the end, the inner pocket on the jacket is so convenient, we want it to be with us, so we buy a men's jacket that at the same time comfortably covers our lower back and won't be idiotic - read, girlish - fitted .
Clothing is not limited. The overwhelming majority of my friends and friends are engaged in some kind of activity, which even 10 years ago the girls were not particularly interested. If earlier they went to yoga and fitness, now they drive scooters and motorcycles, ride fixes, move on scooters and longboards. No fight. Just persistent penetration.
Guys, by the way, also penetrate female territory. True, on their part, this is more evidence of the dying off of the complexes. They are fond of cooking, go to yoga, massage and manicure and collect sunglasses. And what is interesting is that if guys in this situation look quite versatile and open, then girls, with their desire to get into men's pants, begin to look dismally the same. I write this text in a dress and running sneakers. My colleague also came to work today in a dress and running sneakers. And one more - in a dress and sneakers. It is very comfortable - and very monotonous, despite the fact that our sneakers and sneakers are so beautiful and different.
Surely all this is a temporary phenomenon, and after a while everything will return to normal: minimalism and convenience will get us, we will again uncover leopard fur coats and hairpins (many, however, did not remove them), men will go to boxing, girls will on yoga. Perhaps this will also happen, paradoxically, precisely because we are reaching for the men. But not to press them, but to feel comfortable next to them. The men's fashion movement is now quite obvious: casual, vintage and outdoor are slowly giving way to sartorial and smart chic, if in Russian - a bearded man in a plaid shirt and trekking boots leaves, and a clean-shaven guy in a blazer and oxford comes to replace him. We want to wear shoes to be with this guy, and we put on. In the end, I finish this column not in Nike Gyakusou, but in sandals. I miss you.
