New name: Sudan-Australian model Adut Akech

IN RUBRIC "NEW NAME" we talk about promising newcomers: musicians, directors, artists and other creative people — that is, everyone whose name is increasingly appearing on the pages of magazines, in social network tapes and in our conversations and who is clearly on the verge of great success.

Who is it: an Australian originally from South Sudan, in 2018 appeared on five Vogue covers, after which she became the “model of the year” by Models.com

Models.com is the main industrial site of the world of modeling, so to take first place in its final ranking is an honor. This year, in a vote held with the help of two hundred and fifty representatives of the fashion world, eighteen-year-old Adut Akech won - most designers, stylists, photographers and casting directors highly appreciated the work of an Australian with South Sudanese roots.

Although at her first international show, Akech came at sixteen, the girl gained world fame quite recently - first, thanks to the exclusive show of Saint Laurent in the spring-summer 2017 season, and then her participation in the Chanel Haute Couture show, in which she appeared in a bride (Akech became the second model of African descent in history, published in this role). At the same fashion week, she took part in the Fendi show and closed the Valentino show in a huge bright orange dress. Together with Naomi Campbell (with whom Adut is inevitably compared) she starred for the Pirelli calendar, whose creative director and stylist was Edward Anninful. Under his leadership, two British Vogue covers appeared at once, the heroine of which was a young model.

Leadership in the ranking may well help Achech to achieve their goals - in the future, by the girl’s own admission, she would like to open an agency for models from South Sudan. “You can’t even imagine how many beautiful girls there are with dark skin and incredible potential who have no connections and resources,” she said in an interview with Vogue.
