10 young stylists who need to know
Text: Natalya Kurazhitsa
At the shoot, the stylist plays an equally important role as the photographer, but not everyone knows about it. While Grace Coddington, Nicola Formichetti, and Katie Grand are all more or less familiar with the exploits, only a few will answer the question of who is styling the main young designers and shooting for independent magazines. Make up for lost time and talk about 10 budding stylists, who should look at right now.
Georgia Pendlebury
We have already talked about Georgia Pendlebury: this British woman is one of the new stars of street-style blogs. Remember: her, perhaps, the most famous bow - a suit made of latex Meat paired with an oversized sheepskin coat. However, her immediate occupation is the work of a stylist. In most cases, the girl shoots for the young Swiss magazine Novembre with photographer Nicholas Kulomb and art director Florence Tetya - and these shots are perhaps one of the most advanced today. The guys know for sure how to show the style of the 90s in a new way and are not afraid to cover the model with multi-colored glitter, which, for example, in Russia, with a probability of 90%, would be considered a bad taste. On account of Pendlebury special projects with Dries Van Noten and Maison Martin Margiela for Novembre, as well as the spring-summer lookbook of accessories brand Amélie Pichard. She hasn’t done any commerce yet - she probably just doesn’t want to, but it’s possible that the offers to rent an advertisement or another fell on her after a dozen shootings for Novembre.
Un-categorized
Un-categorized is a duet of stylists Emily Haltqvist and Stelios Stelana. Swede and Cypriot live and work in London. In their portfolio are surveys for Dossier and Garage magazines and projects for the Oki-ni.com store. The guys are also responsible for the shooting of the Russian designer Tigran Avetisyan, with whom both have long-standing friendly relations. Khaltqvist and Stelanu clearly show how stylists who like aesthetics of minimalism should work now, after all, spoiling a simple, at first glance, shooting is as easy as a complex editorial in the spirit of Panos Japan.
Morgan Nicolas
Morgan Nicolas, too, from the gang of the magazine Novembre, the girl lives and works in Paris. Perhaps, besides the Swiss gloss, her second main project is WAD, where Nicolas works under the direction of fashion director Jean-Paul Paula. The girl loves the aesthetics of the post-Internet era and the 90s, to which she refers in her numerous shootings. However, it works not only with Novembre and WAD - Nicolas does not disdain to remove the final works of students of Parisian universities and cooperate with lesser-known publications. We love her work for the unprecedented flow of nudity and the use of improvised means - who else will shoot beauty through the aquarium? In addition, Nicolas is now working on his own line of accessories.
Tzarkusi
Tzarkusi is another duo on the list: it was formed by two young men, Nad di Nicola and Cusi Kubi. The first is a creative director from Rome, the second is a PR manager for KTZ. Since 2011, they have been styling together for clients like Hunger and Used independent magazines or real music giants - Domino and Mute Records labels. Above and Kusi are enthusiastic about the eclectic mix of 90s style, references to subcultures and traditions of different countries. At the same time shooting from them can be completely unexpected - the avant-garde in the spirit of Panos Japan or as minimal as if from John Kay.
Le Philippe Guilmette
Gimet lives in Canadian Montreal, but travels a lot around the world. Obviously, he designs and shoots in his hometown, and then sells them to foreign publications. His publications include Fucking Young and The Ones2Watch, and recently Guimet made an editorial for Novembre along with Russian-born photographer Masha Mel. The young man also enjoys video. One of his recent commercials even got to the festival "A Shaded View on Fashion Film", organized by Diana Pern.
Leeson Marchesso
Leeson, a native of Canadian Victoriaville, where they hardly even think about fashion, now lives and works in London. She's a vegan, loves Allen and Fellini and loves repeating the phrase "Hell yes." Marcesso is actively working with one of our favorite magazines, The Room - it was she who took off the cover for the spring-summer issue. Leeson likes aesthetics of minimalism with oddities: she compensates for the simplicity and conciseness of the outfits of the models with unusual postures, decorations and foreshortenings. Marcesso also styles for i-D, Lula and POP and is responsible for the Swedish book brand COS.
Thomas C. Toth
Thomas C. Toth is the editor of a publication about everything new and interesting in fashion and culture of U + MAG, supporting a huge number of young talents. He is a lover of self-sufficient things, such as transforming dresses from colorful stripes of Chalayan, masks with KTZ studs and layering. Particularly interesting are the men's footage of the British - hardly the guys will wear T-shirts from pink plastic mesh over white leather suits, but his styling looks always impressive. Thomas shoots for Bullet, Open Lab and ELLE and loves ironic and futuristic videos - look at least at his project about food for Schön.
Ellie Grace Cumming
A graduate of the London College of Fashion gained experience from the stylist Katie England, and began free swimming from work at AnOther. Ally Grace was shooting with photographers like Nick Knight and Eddie Slimane, which, however, is not surprising. Cumming is known for a dark and romantic aesthetics in the spirit of the films of Tim Burton. Most of her shootings are black and white, and among her favorite brands are, of course, Alexander McQueen and Meadham Kirchhoff. Cumming now occupies the position of contributing editor at Dazed & Confused and is also involved in commercial filming. For example, on the account of Ellie Grace campaign brand of crystals Swarovski.
Celestine Cooney
Celestine Cooney was born in a small Irish village and spent her childhood fishing. Then she graduated from film school and worked in Dublin. By the will of fate, a girl who loves to dress simply and beautifully, adding a pair of grunge details to an ordinary bow, decides to move to London and begins working at Dazed & Confused under the guidance of the notorious stylist Nikola Formicetti. Recently, Celestin is the director of Twin magazine's fashion magazine, for which he is shooting covers. She is also responsible for the styling of the shows of the finalist of the LVMH Prize Simone Rocha and the Topshop campaign.
Matthew Josephs
Matthew Josephs has been keen on fashion since his youth - ever since he saw the John Galliano show for Dior, dedicated to Japanese geishas. Josephs decided to enter Central Saint Martins and graduate from the design department of women's clothing, but it was always to styling. His first job was as an assistant at i-D, and after a few years he began shooting the covers of a British magazine - for example, the famous one with FKA Twigs, a singer and friend of a young stylist. Since then, he has advised designers Meadham Kirchhoff and Nazir Mazhar, and also works with magazines like Clash, GQ and Wonderland. The influence of Josephs on fashion is pretty obvious - it seems that his love for the post-Internet, post-punk and post-assistant has now spread to every young designer. But remember that Matthew himself was the first in this genre, and it’s not getting tired of emphasizing i-D and The Business of Fashion publications, calling him one of the most remarkable stylists of his generation.
