Annelise Michelson: Sculptural Ornaments from France

IN THE WEEKLY RUBRIC "NEW MARK" Wonderzine presents young designers and tells where and how you can buy their things. Our heroine this week is the French Annelise Michelson, the founder of the jewelry brand of the same name. Her chokers, razors and toothed rings today are FKA twigs and Karin Roitfeld.

Annelise Michelson is a graduate of the prestigious Paris School at the Syndicate of High Fashion, which has existed since 1927, and among its graduates are the notorious Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, André Courrege and Valentino. Annelise studied clothing designer and interned at the houses of Hermès and Vanessa Bruno. The girl became the designer of jewelry by chance. In 2010, a friend who had assisted Karin Roitfeld asked for help and asked Annelise to create jewelry for the shooting of French Vogue. The girl went to work and showed accessories from non-standard materials: lace, silicone, chains and glass. Shooting for Vogue was crucial for the career of a young designer: they talked about Annelise Michelson as a full-fledged brand of jewelery, and orders fell on the designer.

Annelize herself feels like a sculptor. Brand jewels really look like metal sculptures: they frame and seem to flow down the body - the ears, hands and neck, reminding the drapery of the fabric, the sharp teeth of carnivorous plants. Especially the designer succeed in large jewelry: cuffs, chokers, razors and toothed rings. All are made in the spirit of fashion filming of the late 80s - early 90s. Annelize says that her jewelry is a powerful accent, and her women with strong character inspire her: Grace Jones, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Debbie Harry and FKA twigs. Mark is actively supported by celebrities from Lady Gaga and Rihanna to M.I.A. and Courtney Love. The latter even appeared in the Annelise Michelson advertising campaign.

I would like to come up with suitable jewelry for men. I already made a couple of chains and rings to order. However, most men are afraid to wear large jewelry. It seems to me that it is never too late to try something new. The result can be very sexy and fun. Be bold!
