Richards Jackets and Dresses
IN THE WEEKLY RUBRIC "NEW MARK"Wonderzine presents young designers and tells where and how you can buy their things. Our heroine this week is Sarah Leslie Richards.
Stamps that build their entire history on prints can be listed endlessly: these are Dries van Noten, and Marni, and Mother of Pearl. We follow young designers who can become "new Mary Katranza". These include the American Sarah Leslie Richards. The collections of the girls include jackets made of cotton and dresses of silk of a basic cut, working through prints. This leaves with flowers, and ancient marble statues, and water spreading on the glass. For their printing, Richards uses inks with an active acid that makes colors richer.
Sarah Leslie founded the brand name two years ago. A girl who grew up in Manhattan and graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design, decided to explore prints and how they are changing modern technology. Her experience with designers and brands that specialize in prints pushed her to this: Richards trained at Diane von Furstenberg, Opening Ceremony and Proenza Schouler. For two years, Sarah Leslie has released two full collections. The first one was purchased by three American stores - from quite different parts of the country: New York, California and Colorado. The second will appear in stores this spring.
I realized that I wanted to become a clothing designer at the age of six, and since then I have not changed my mind. I create things for women and men who dress in their pleasure and express themselves through their appearance. For me, wearing comfort is important, so I use loose cut and “flexible” fabrics. The main thing - prints. A print can carry some kind of message, be bold and unique. Both antiquity and modernity inspire me to create drawings, while developing them I like to use symbols that are far from fashion. Now I am working on an autumn-winter collection, in which there will be daflkoty and backpacks with prints, which is new to me.
