Interior designer Maria Pleshakova in her living room
RUBRIC "ROOM"dedicated to the place in which a person spends most of his time. It can be absolutely any space: a huge kitchen in which the hero works and rests, an art gallery that has become the second home of its owner, or just a living room in a one-room apartment, which is at the same time office, bedroom and secret place. The space in which a person is able to focus on himself and his affairs and not feel himself a participant in the eternal race of a big city. In our new issue - interior designer Maria Pleshakova and her living room.
In this apartment we live four and a half years. When I first came here, I fell in love with the view from the window of the red brick factory and the Ostankino tower in the distance. The apartment itself was in a terrible state. We left here only this strange fake fireplace - we liked it very much and in the end perfectly fitted into the space. The area is also a huge plus: Stalin's houses, wide sidewalks, lots of trees and few cars, two universities, White Square. I, frankly, hardly ever want to move out of here.
About space
Most of all, we dreamed of a large living room combined with a kitchen - which we realized. There we are going to small companies (and sometimes large ones) for dinner. But my favorite time is when the son falls asleep and my husband and I turn on some movie on the projector. Although the cartoons with his son in an embrace on the couch, we also love to watch. The only thing missing here (besides a couple of extra rooms) is the balcony. The most important thing in this room and in the apartment as a whole is that it didn’t have time to bother us at all: we always come back here from our trips with great joy. The last home purchase is probably a chestnut table. I gave it to my husband for my birthday: I chose a saw, tinted and drew a stand. The husband was very pleased, and I, too.
About furniture and small things
I like European and American online furniture stores, but most often they don’t ship to Russia. Recently I planned to order a new lamp on the CB2 website, but it did not pass by weight. From Russian online stores I like Archive Store: a very cool selection of brands HAY, Gubi, & tradition and others. In the Danish Store you can find more affordable House Doctor and ferm LIVING options. If you want to buy something for your home right now, then I'll go to Mobeledom. From there we have two chairs and a lamp in the kitchen. From IKEA things are also enough - where do without it. Although in the next apartment I would like to use them as little as possible.
I always imagine how I would design the interior in the future apartment (which is not yet and is not planned). What I would definitely do is more closed storage spaces. I dream to learn not to litter the space with unnecessary objects, but I can't do it. I do not know where all these little things come from. Six months ago, she did a lot of cleaning up and discarding everything unnecessary, but after two months everything seemed to be back.
