Street Romance Koché: Casual Wear with Embroidery and Feathers
WONDERZINE PRESENTS YOUNG DESIGNERS and tells where and how you can buy their things. Our heroine this week is Christelle Cauche, founder of the French brand Koché.
Fashion publications are rarely so unanimous in choosing the main newcomer of the season. About Christelle Kosche, who entered the short list of the LVMH Prize contest, and the new collection of her Koché brand, in the framework of Paris Fashion Week, several publications have written at once - from Business of Fashion to Interview. And not without reason.
Despite the fact that Koché is not even two years old, the name is Koshe on the ear among industry insiders: after finishing Saint Martins in 2002, she managed to work on several large and recognizable brands. It is to them that she is grateful for the vast experience that she now uses in her work on things for her own brand. So, in Chloé, Koshe learned to handle the pleats, draperies and delicate fabrics (chiffon and organza) for which the brand is famous. In the studio Maison Lemarié, owned by Chanel, - the creation of evening gowns and fancy dress with feathers, hand embroidery and all attached. At Martine Sitbon, she gained managerial skills and ideas about the full production cycle - from the appearance of the concept of a thing to its creation and sale.
With such a baggage of knowledge and nuances behind, Kristel Koshe decided to create her own brand. It is surprising that her own line is a little similar to the brands with which the designer has worked before, but Koché fits perfectly into a number of young and daring brands with recognizable style and ordinary people as models. So far there is no talk about collaborations with the mass market or selling to a fashionable conglomerate, but there is no doubt that in the near future, Koché's things will be snapped up.
The balance of street fashion and femininity is what distinguishes Koché from the rest: if the bodily dress is a combination, then with wide jeans, if thin romantic blouses, then with tights in a grid and heavy velvet skirts. Christelle admits that she is attracted to the work with her hands, this is what determines the value of her things: applique, embroidery, knitting. The designer's work is a bit like Rodarte at the very beginning of their journey, Koché is often compared with them. At least for the price, they have already quite caught up.
The idea behind the creation of the Koché brand is a mix of simple, everyday clothes with handmade elements and French couture. For example, we combine incredible, elegant dresses with leggings for yoga. I worked in fashion enough to understand how important it is to focus on the main thing - creating a new one. At the moment, a large amount of energy is concentrated in Paris - it comes from me, from people like Simon Jacmus (the creator of the brand Jacquemus), and so on. People of my generation have something to say.
