Skateboarder Katya Shengelia about the absence of competitors and tricks
Sport has long been an integral part of our lives.even if at times his presence boils down to awkward attempts to introduce short workouts at home on a dusty yoga mat, or even wear leggings and comfortable workouts. That is why we have prepared a series of interviews with girls who are addicted to or professionally engaged in extreme sports: someone will inspire their examples to sign up for regular classes in the gym, others will be encouraged to ride their first wave somewhere on the African coast. All our heroines ride on different types of boards - from skateboard to surf - and do not think their lives without sports.
Skate is my life! Fate prepared me for what I am doing now. This is definitely not a female sport, but I also grew up with Bratish, so after our fright with my brother, playing with girls in the sandbox was damn boring. Skateboarding found me myself: I chose on the day I was born, on June 21, on World Skateboarding Day. Friendly environment you will not find, except that a snowboard, surf and some extreme parties. Borders are one big family. I always skated with the guys, no one ever offended me, on the contrary, they always helped. When I come to Spain or Prague, Portugal, any other city or country, I am always with my family, with my brothers and sisters - with skaters. If you really love skateboarding, ride, because you like it, and not for the sake of someone, you will always be in the company. And this is not only skateboarding concerns. After all, if you love business, then you get high and happy. And happy people are attracted to each other.
In Russia, there are not enough girls skating, so there has been no talk about women's competitions yet. Once a year, I steadily travel abroad for my money and mummy and try to hook on some kind of contest. This year in France, the next stage of the World Cup was held, where I took the fifth place and grabbed 100 euros. Unfortunately, in the absence of board sponsors, I have certain problems. For example, in these competitions I rode on the “door”: the board was on my navel — and I flew like plywood over Paris!
Here, in my native Moscow, competing with guys. This year, I rode with my brothers at Adrenalin Games and World Cup Skateboarding Moscow. Now we don’t have a single high-quality indoor skate park in Moscow, so as not to lose our skills in the winter. Regarding the development of skateboarding as a sport, it is rumored that skateboarding discipline will be tried on at the nearest youth Olympics. If you give a ride - and the skate does it for sure - at the next Games we will officially see skateboarding.
Learning new tricks is the maximum work on yourself, both physically and psychologically. Be sure to work the head, because you need to understand the physics of the trick. Skateboarding is a very technical sport! Each trick is an inspiration, so skaters are so different and each has their own style of riding. Each trick has a secret access key to help it perform, and I share some of them in my videos.
I ride a skateboard for almost half of my life, I spent another three years with an insane love of snowboarding, four years of climbing, I earned the 2nd category in athletics, and went for four years with my brother to Sambo. And you ask, what gives me sport and extreme? I think skateboarding is the heartbeat of my heart!
