Where to start rugby classes

Somehow we reassuredwhy you should not divide the sport into male and female, as a preface to a series of materials about "non-female" sports activities. We have already figured out how to start boxing and crossfit, and now tell you about rugby.

Contrary to popular belief, this is not at all cruel, but an explosive, fun, noble and entertaining sport that perfectly suits goal-oriented and courageous girls. Rugby teaches teamwork, develops the ability for mutual respect between athletes, understanding and cooperation, without which it is impossible to achieve collective success. “The special features of rugby are in the ability to make quick decisions, initiative, interaction with people during matches and after,” says Baizat Khamidova, a professional player of the Krasny Yar team.

The bottom line is that the players of one team, passing the oval ball with their hands and feet, carry it into the opponent's in-goal field. Contractions, grabs and blocks that interfere with their goals and are present in abundance, contribute to a powerful release of adrenaline. "This is a universal sport, in which you need to be able to grab as in a fight, hold the ball and hands like in basketball, kick your feet like in football, and run like a good athlete. The most important thing is that a person learns to work in a team, of the end and rush to victory ", - explains Masha Shishkina, master of sports in rugby, coach of the amateur team" Nord "and the only active female judge in Russia.

Everyone can begin to engage in rugby, there are no restrictions on sex or age, and in the early stages, the level of fitness also does not matter. “Anyone will be able to find a suitable position on the field, based on their capabilities,” said Ekaterina Barabash, a professional player of the Khimki rugby club. By the way, there are both purely female and mixed teams.

Lesson at the discretion of the coach lasts from one to two hours and begins with a warm-up (as you forgot about the need for it?). The first trainings are of an introductory nature and include practicing the most important techniques, for example, “passing the sword” of the sword. “For a beginner, the main thing is to master the technique: pass, catch, grip, trick, kick the ball, and also develop your physical data,” says Catherine. Inexperienced players, on the basis of their abilities and the task of the coach, are most involved in the activities of the main group. This allows you to learn from a good example and not lose interest while standing apart. The training also includes athletic exercises or exercises on simulators, learning and securing tactical schemes. "Training a beginner includes a lot of ball games - the main techniques during them and unlearn," - says Masha.

“Get ready for the fact that not everything will turn out right away. You shouldn’t get upset, further training and advice from more experienced guys from the team will help you improve with each lesson. The main thing is to take the first step and come to the training session,” Ekaterina says.

Rugby strengthens the circulatory system, increases stamina, develops dexterity and muscles of the whole body. "High-speed skills are improved due to high dynamics; technical elements have a positive effect on coordination; power skills are also developing," notes Ekaterina Barabash. Training to be negotiated - a mixture of strength and aerobic exercise; they contribute to weight loss, muscle gain, and relief. "The upper shoulder girdle is developing noticeably, the body pulls up and becomes athletic," says Masha. During the lesson it is important to be focused - most injuries happen from inattention. During training, not only the body works, but also the head, because the tactical component is also important.

In addition to the development of physical and strategic skills, rugby makes demands on the moral qualities of the participants: their behavior on the field must be ethical, and the game must be fair. It is necessary to show respect not only for the members of their team, but also equally for the opposing team. “The main qualities of this athlete are honesty and nobility,” confirms Masha.

You can play rugby in regular shorts and a T-shirt. The only necessary component of a newbie or amateur outfit are boots with plastic spikes. “For an amateur, they will be enough, but in the match you need to use additional accessories: a mouth guard, a soft helmet and soft lining on the chest and shoulders, which are able to protect against injury,” Ekaterina recommends.

As with any sport, the athlete's diet affects its performance. "The rugby diet includes a large amount of complex carbohydrates and proteins, omega-3 fats, -6 and -9. Professionals also need to consume a number of vitamins and amino acids," Masha advises. Catherine adds: "It is necessary to adhere to a healthy diet, avoid excessively fatty foods, such as fast food, and do not abuse the sweet. These simple rules will help to stay in good physical shape."
