From Kiev to Singapore: Charity races this summer
Text: Ksyusha Murlykina
The modern world gives us so many opportunities that even on vacation you can catch everything at once. Exactly therefore, we offer to plan the upcoming holiday season with maximum benefit: decide where you will go to relax, create a program for sports training, and at the same time do a good deed. We talk about the charity races that will be held this summer around the world and you can run to help children with autism, people with multiple sclerosis, cancer patients and even Amur tigers. The main thing - remember that participation in any race (and even more so in the semi- and marathon) requires advance sports training.

PROBEG.KIEV.UA
One of the oldest running events in Ukraine, "Chestnut Run" will be held in Kiev for the 24th time. In the first charity run in 1993, 150 people took part, today their number is more than 10 thousand. For those who have never been to Kiev and do not like boring excursion groups, “Chestnut Run” is a great opportunity to see the key sights of the city on the run. Usually, local residents try to avoid Khreshchatyk because of crowds of tourists, but on the day of the race the main street is transformed: it is part of the athletes' route, but the crowdedness on this day is not annoying, but, on the contrary, inspiring.
The addressee of the "Run under the Chestnuts" aid is the Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. In just 16 years of supporting the Center, the participants of the “Chestnut Run” collected about 3 million hryvnias (approximately 8 million rubles) for which the necessary equipment and supplies were purchased for the clinic.
You can register for the race until May 25 inclusive.

raceharborough.co.uk
The route of this race with a starting point in the town of Market Harborough, in the county of Leicestershire, runs through small English villages and trails with an idyllic view. The event takes place on the same day as the annual city carnival, where God himself ordered to go after the competition. Among the participants are waiting for both experienced athletes who can cope with the half marathon and a distance of 10 km, as well as those who have just started to get involved in jogging (the 1.6 km route is intended for them).
Part of the amount earned on registration fees will be transferred to the local non-profit organization The Squires Effect. She supports several hospices and charitable foundations for children and adolescents that help to fight addiction, cancer and heart disease. In addition, anyone can raise money to help any other fund: to do this, you need to inform your organizers of your desire, create a profile on the JustGiving or VirginMoneyGiving service and use the competition as a platform for collecting donations.
You can register for the race until June 5 inclusive.
Take a hike

takeahike.org.au
"Your support today can change the child's life forever," says the description of the run, Take A Hike, and hints that another run on a Sunday morning is an easy way to help those in need. The event organizers want to draw attention to the needs of children with autism and raise 10 thousand dollars for the non-profit foundation AEIOU Foundation, which specializes in their problems. Every hundredth child in Australia is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, and it is a huge challenge to help each of them.
In this case, anyone can contribute to the best of their abilities and skills. At the finish of all participants and guests waiting for a barbecue party, where everyone will have the opportunity to celebrate their sporting achievements and the fact of their involvement in ensuring a better life for children with autism.
You can register for events until June 12 inclusive.
Muckfest ms
New Jersey, USA, June 25
nationalmssociety.org
Another frivolous event for a serious reason. MS Society is a charity that collects money to fight multiple sclerosis. She also owns the initiative to create a series of charitable mud runs with obstacles, this year such fun starts will be held immediately in 11 US cities. Where exactly you want to fall into the mud with your face - in San Francisco in October, in Detroit in August, in New Jersey in June - you can choose on the event website. The organizers promise that at the end of the 5-kilometer route you will not get tired of running, but of smiles and laughter, because “it's mucking awesome”. The program also includes mud yoga and Pilates as a warm-up before the start. A counter on the MuckFest MS website reports that during the existence of this initiative in support of people with multiple sclerosis, they collected 23 239 353 dollars.
You can register for the race both in advance and on the day of the event.
Race Against Cancer
Singapore, July 3
raceagainstcancer.org.sg
No one has to fight cancer alone - an idea that the organizers of this charity race want to spread as widely as possible. Team "Race Against Cancer" invites everyone to overcome a distance of 5, 10 and 15 kilometers. The race route runs through a picturesque park on the south-east coast of Singapore. Running along the sea has its inherent advantages: in addition to the excellent view, a refreshing breeze will not let you go crazy with the heat. This race is suitable for those who have long wanted to conquer a serious distance, but are still not sure that they can meet the time limit. The organizers of "Race Against Cancer" allocated for 15 km two and a half hours, so you can even overcome the route on foot.
All funds raised during the race will go to help The Singapore Cancer Society - a charity foundation with more than 50 years of history, which supports cancer patients at all stages of the disease. The organizing team also encourages all concerned to share their cancer-related stories; Some of them are posted on the site of the race.
You can register for the race until May 30 inclusive.
Bubble run
Washington DC, August 13
bubblerun.com
Foamy. Running A party. Participants promise 5 km of running, dancing and unrestrained fun. Throughout the route, athletes will be doused with a huge amount of multi-colored foam. The organizers warn that they are not sure whether the participants will like the foam, but they have no doubt about its safety.
It is important to clarify, "Bubble Run" is not a competition, but first and foremost an opportunity to get positive emotions and do a good deed by donating money to local charities. It is hard to disagree: it is unlikely that someone will be able to show outstanding athletic performance in “soapy” conditions. The initiative also reminds all runners that running is not only technique and records, but also a way to have fun.
If this summer you did not plan to go to Washington, do not be discouraged. Until the end of 2016, such foam races will be held in 38 US cities - from Portland to New York. As for direct assistance, the organizers of the Washington race are still choosing which fund to help this year. But this question has already been decided, for example, in Richmond and Duluth: there the collected funds will be transferred to organizations that support adolescents from incomplete families and children with autism.
You can register for the race both in advance and on the day of the event.
Frost the trail
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, August 13
frost-apac.com
An option for those who hold the opinion that August is the best month for summer holidays. If this time you plan to spend in Malaysia, look at the charity run "Frost The Trail", which will be held in the capital of the country. There are two distances to choose from: 8 km - individual - and a 20 km relay race, designed for a team of four athletes. The race route runs through the neighborhood of the local botanical garden. Judging by the pictures from Google, the park is a great place to run and selfie (if you stopped for a breather), so we advise you to take care of the phone's full charge. All funds raised at the event will be transferred to the non-profit organization Mercy Malaysia, which provides medical care to vulnerable people in crisis situations.
You can register for the race before July 24th.
Catch up with the tiger
Worldwide, all year round
run4tiger.com
An initiative for those who have a heart ache for wildlife and its inhabitants. Two facts about Amur tigers that you need to know. The first - they are very few; the second - on the day they run an average of 10-20 kilometers. WWF enthusiasts have hung up a GPS sensor on one such tiger, and now any runner has the opportunity to compete with this graceful animal and at the same time help his relatives. Actually, in order to “catch up with the tiger,” you don’t need to go anywhere - you can even try yourself in the village with your grandmother, at least in the park nearest to your home.
The mechanics are simple: download the application, accept the conditions of the competition (for example, run 17 kilometers) and try to fulfill them. Otherwise, you will have to donate at least two dollars to tigers. In the process, the tiger becomes your real running rival. There are days when he is lazy, just like us, and runs only 10 km. In general, if you lose in this dispute, it will not be insulting, but you will definitely do a good deed. Win-win situation.
You can register in the application and arrange a race with a tiger at any time.
