Ombre on the lips: Makeup with several shades of lipstick
The gradient on the lips itself - reception is not new at all (however, wake up when something really new happens in fashion). Smooth transitions between different colors have long been used in clothes, eye makeup, nail art, then for a long time the gradient has settled on the hair, and the main feature of the past summer is lip makeup, made in the ombre technique. Billions of video tutorials and even special products to create the desired effect are attached. We tell you where the fashion went from for such a gradient and how to recreate it yourself.
How it all began
This technique was first widely used - who would you think? - drag queen. Lip makeup, in which the contour was maximally blacked out, and towards the center of the lips, the shade stretched to a lighter one, made it possible to create the appearance of a solid volume and get those very “feminine” plump lips. At a time when models with a gradient on lips walked down the runways, the sculpturing function of this technique has faded into the background (although in this sense it has great potential - you can increase, decrease, balance the proportions), but a huge number of options for stretching colors and use of products.
On the Christian Dior FW-2009 show, the joint Victorian and Pat McGrath creative solution was a Victorian-style solution: the makeup artist used dark shades of lipstick, highlighting part of her lower lip. In subsequent seasons, the Christian Dior models also repeatedly appeared on the catwalk with various variants of such makeup. In 2012, Charlotte Tilbury showed the most interesting interpretation for Prabal Gurung, and by 2015 there was interest on the lips gradient of Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana and Marc Jacobs. In the future, the podium trend was inspired by bloggers who showed that Ombre is a completely viable and not very complicated type of makeup. Now you can find a huge number of instructions: from the simplest two-color combinations to stretching an inconceivable number of shades or makeup with the addition of glitter.
Why do you need it
The ombre technique in lip make-up is a great game for those who have a cosmetic bag cracking at the seams of lipstick, and you can do this makeup in a variety of ways. For example, use the above-described classic drag-technique for a visual increase in the lips. If you dramatically emphasize only the upper lip with the darkest color, then you quickly and effortlessly get a bright, but not dull accent. Another ombre is a good option to "sit down" the color with which you for some reason did not make friends, and find the ideal use for lipstick that follows the contour, which, as a rule, lend themselves perfectly to feathering. Do not forget about the difference of textures: a lipstick and concealer duet gives a surprisingly gentle effect - they provide a lot of room for working with proportions. The gradient on the lips makes it easy to make friends with other seasonal trends, from metallic to dark lipsticks still remaining at the peak.
How to do it
If the trend has fallen in love with you, then know that NYX has already taken care of you - the brand sensitive to trends has released a handy pencil Ombre Lip Duo. A similar product is in Laneige. In fact, this is just two-tone lipstick, which is enough for other Korean manufacturers, but this color combination is outstanding. For training it will be enough for any black pencil and your favorite red lipstick, which together became an ombre classic combination. A similar universal version is shown by MAC and Nicole Thompson in one of their one-minute video tutorials. If all this is for you already completed stage, do not forget about the ubiquitous metallic and use gold, silver and bronze with more (or less, as you wish) classic shades.
To create a gradient, you can use anything that is brightened or fixed using a balm. However, in order to achieve the most accurate transitions, it is better to use a brush, not a finger. The most chic is the proper use of white: it is very good as a base for stretching the base color. White ombre is one of the rare techniques in which the dominant color on the lips does not look like a gouache stain due to the volume effect.
